Sutton Tools metric die nuts are hexagonal threading tools specifically engineered to clean, repair, and resize damaged or rusted external threads. They are a staple for maintenance and DIY workshop tasks, allowing you to quickly restore threads on bolts or threaded rods using a standard wrench or socket rather than a specialized die stock handle.

BREAKDOWN OF M5 X 0.8

  • M5: This indicates a Metric thread with a nominal outside diameter of 5 millimeters.
  • 0.8: This is the thread pitch (0.8 mm), which is the precise distance from the peak of one thread to the peak of the next. For an M5 fastener, 0.8 mm is the standard coarse pitch.
  • Carbon: This refers to Carbon Alloy Steel, the material the tool is made from. Carbon steel is harder than standard bolts, allowing it to reshape metal, but it is more brittle than High-Speed Steel (HSS). It is perfect for manual repair work but will break if used in heavy power tools.
  • Die Nut: Also known as a thread chaser. Its hexagonal shape is specifically designed for quick, portable maintenance work rather than manufacturing new parts
Primary Applications
  • Thread Chasing: Clearing out rust, dirt, dried paint, or industrial adhesive from old bolts.
  • Burr Removal: Smoothing down cross-threaded sections or tip damage caused by hammering a bolt.
  • Confined Spaces: Repairing a fixed stud or bolt directly on a machine or vehicle where a bulky circular die handle will not fit.
